SHAMANISMISTA
Jaana Kouri
Kuljen metsässä rumpu selässäni. Istahdan kalliolle suon reunaan. Rummutan kaikkiin ilmansuuntiin, yliseen ja aliseen. Suljen silmäni puolittain, näen tähän ja toiseen maailmaan. Teen matkan aliseen, käyn myös keskisessä. Palaan matkaltani ja kirjoitan näkemäni ja kuulemani ylös. Kuljen koirani kanssa kotiin päin, pysähdyn syömään puolukoita. Ylitsemme lentää matalalla merikotka.
THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DRUM: A VIEW FROM INSIDE
Jaana Kouri
This article was presented at the International Conference of Uku Masing and the Culture of Indigenous People, October 15. – 17. 1999 in Raikküla Basic School, Lipa, Estonia. Here it is shortened, because during the presentation I showed a series of pictures on the process of drum making and corresponding texts which are absent here.
IN THE LAND OF SONG AND THE DRUM: RECEIVING INSPIRATION FROM TUVAN SHAMANS
Christiana Harle-Silvennoinen
Five years ago, I left for the Republic of Tuva – Land of Eagles and blue mountains. Tuva is the little Switzerland of Siberia. The Altai, Sayan and Tannuola mountain ranges encircle the country. It is a land of pristine forests, lakes of all colors, and the birthplace of the Yenesei River as well as ancient sites of the Scythian culture. Uranium and asbestos mines are also part of the scenery.
SPIRIT VOICE: SHAMANIC SINGING
Annette Høst
”Songs are thoughts, sung out with the breath when people are moved by great forces and ordinary speech no longer suffices” Orpingalik, Netsilik Inuit.
Song and chanting has been a dimension in shamanic practice always and everywhere. Also today, Song will show up all by it self for anyone who starts out on the path of shamanism. For many years, Song has taught me a lot about spirit, power and transformation.
SHAMANISM, ROCK ART, AND SACRED STONES
Francis Joy
The relationship between shamans and different elements in nature has been portrayed throughout Europe from a far back as 40,000 years during the Upper Palaeolithic era. This is seen in the cave paintings of Lascaux in France, and Altimira in Spain. Another well known rock are phenomenon which has drawn many parallels to the cave art in France and Spain, has been the San cave art in South Africa, which is estimated to be 3,000 years old. It is almost certain that rock and cave art is related to Sympathetic Magic with reference to hunting and animal ceremonialism. The painted images and rock carvings found throughout the world, represent different forms of communication taking place, where communication and visions from both the physical and spiritual worlds, are portrayed by shamans after communication has been encountered.
